Welcome Gugulethu Moyo to the Edot Team!

We are excited to announce that Gugulethu Moyo has joined the Edot leadership team as Director of Development and Communications!

Gugulethu grew up in Zimbabwe and has lived and worked in multiple countries, including Jamaica, India, and the United Kingdom where she was involved in Jewish communal life. She now lives in Tucson, Arizona with her spouse and child. Her family by marriage has deep Jewish Wisconsin roots, and she frequently travels back and forth to and from the Midwest.

Gugulethu is a human rights activist, lawyer, fundraiser, and nonprofit leadership and communications specialist. She has served in various leadership roles within law, journalism and museums, and holds the distinction of being the first Jew of Color in the U.S. to run a Jewish museum. She is currently the sole Jew of Color serving on the Board of the Council of American Jewish Museums, where she advocates for a more diverse and inclusive Jewish museum field and for increased representation of the stories of Jews of Color in museums.

Gugulethu was the founding Executive Director of Media Defence, the London-based human rights organization that provides legal aid to journalists and independent media across the world. She led the organization through its launch in 2009, securing the funds needed for its work.

For several years she worked for the International Bar Association where she advised on communications relating to human rights issues and served as a spokesperson. Her writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Independent, New Statesman magazine, and other major publications. 

Gugulethu graduated with law degrees from the University of Zimbabwe and the University of Oxford, and she is also a creative–she spent a year studying at the University of Harvard Graduate School of Design, and she is also a stylist and DJ. Click here to read a longer profile of Gugulethu Moyo and her work in Arizona Jewish Life magazine.
